Hand-painted Ceramics from Impruneta
Impruneta has been famous for plain-fired terracotta over the centuries, with bricks, tiles, household pots and oil jars forming the bulk of the production in the past. During the last 50 years, hand-finished, moulded terracotta house and garden ornaments have become ever more popular as the production of tiles and bricks has become mechanised. A number of workshops also produce hand-painted and glazed terracotta vessels in a variety of styles. The skill of many of the painters is remarkably high. In contrast to Deruta and Montelupo, it is difficult to find these in Impruneta since most of the work is destined for the ceramics shops of Florence.
